“When I met Bruce Anderson on May 29, 2004, I was a serious dressage-lessoned-to death rider who loved my horse. I came to him with a broken finger from a runaway incident on the longe line. I also came to him with a great deal of anger. I was told that he would “teach me to read the horse” and that his training would alleviate potentials for injury and unsatisfying dressage movement. I was not prepared for what was to come. I was to immediately discover that my personal issues of the self were being unconsciously broadcast to my mare, issues she had nothing to do with. Also, I was carrying a lot of useless baggage that I had to dump- things that had no meaning for the horses brain or behavior. I also had to learn to tell the truth and face failure because I could not accomplish “the picture” on or off my horse otherwise... It is now five weeks later. She is soft and lovely to ride, and open minded to learning anything. She’s a super horse on the aids and I love her more than ever - and may I say I love myself more as well.” Robin Margeson
“ Your work with my three year old untrained gelding was phenomenal. I was fascinated watching how you took him step by step from a frantic youngster looking for a way out of the round pen to a confident horse happily carrying a rider with the beginning of go forward, stop, back, turn on the forehand and side pass. Also, he now loads in the trailer, drops his head for the halter and bridle and has very good ground manners. What a foundation to build on for the rest of his life! As good as that was, perhaps what I’m even more excited about was the work that you did with my 14 year old working 4th level dressage mare. I brought her because I realized that she and I had reached a mental plateau that traditional instruction was not addressing. The dynamic of tension between us resulted in her being so hot that she could not relax into a walk or perform higher movements because of tension. By putting me in the round pen with her, it was obvious to me that I am the bottom line. Although I have ridden this mare for 11 years, I did not realize how sensitive she is to my every move until I asked her to go forward in the round pen and a shift of my shoulder made her hesitate. When I was tense, she was tense, even though there was not so much as a halter on her. When I rode my mare this week, I worked on “expecting understanding, not perfection and the perfection will come” and it did! I know that what you taught and said was right~ my horses told me so!” Rebecca Kemp |
